Residential Fencing
Fence Installation Services in Raleigh, NC
Most of our work is for homeowners across Wake County who need privacy, pet containment, or a clean property line. Every residential project starts with a free on-site consultation, and we prepare your city permit at no charge. Raleigh charges $264 for a fence permit, and we handle the paperwork so you don’t have to.

Vinyl Fence Installation
is our most-requested service, and for good reason. We use virgin vinyl manufactured entirely in the USA, backed by a lifetime manufacturer warranty. The 6-foot white privacy fence is our flagship. It never needs painting, staining, or sealing, and the lifetime manufacturer warranty covers the material for as long as you own the property.

Aluminum Fence Installation
works well for front yards, pool enclosures, and any application where you want a clear sightline with a defined boundary. Our aluminum comes with a lifetime manufacturer warranty, and we set posts with 60 to 80 pounds of concrete to match the lighter load profile of ornamental fencing.

Wood Fence Installation
is where material grade matters most. We only use Select #1 A-Grade premium pressure-treated lumber. Most contractors in the Triangle default to Select #2 because it’s cheaper to source. The difference shows up within two to three years: #2 grade warps, splits, and checks faster. We were also the first company in the area to use Alta Pickets, premium wood pickets that carry a 10-year manufacturer warranty.

Chain Link Fence Installation
delivers a straightforward, long-lasting boundary. Our chain link carries a lifetime manufacturer warranty, and we build it with the same post-depth and concrete standards as every other material we install.
We also install these fence styles across the Raleigh area:
- Semi-privacy vinyl fencing
- Lattice-top vinyl panels
- Board-on-board wood fencing
- Shadowbox wood fencing
- Stockade fencing
- Spaced picket fencing
- Spear-top and curved-top aluminum
- Vinyl-coated chain link
- Slatted privacy chain link
- Security chain link fencing
Commercial Fence Solutions Across the Triangle
Commercial properties need fencing that meets compliance codes, secures the perimeter, and holds up to daily use. We work with property managers and business owners across Wake County on chain link enclosures, aluminum perimeter fencing, and high-security applications.
Commercial jobs in the Triangle often run into utility easements and tree protection zones that extend permitting timelines to a month or more. We handle the permit preparation for commercial projects the same way we do residential: included in the quote, no extra charge. Our crews adjust installation methods based on terrain. Compacted gravel lots get augered posts. Sites near underground utilities get hand-dug holes.

Our Work Across the Triangle
We’ve built fences in neighborhoods from Youngsville to Fuquay-Varina and everywhere in between.
The gallery below shows a range of materials, heights, and property types.

Why Triangle Homeowners and Businesses Choose Index Fence
Three rails on every 6-foot panel, not two.
The industry standard for a 6-foot privacy fence is two horizontal rails. We run three. On taller fences of 8 to 10 feet, we run four. That additional rail eliminates mid-panel flex and keeps the fence straight through wind events, which hit the Triangle hard during hurricane season.
Every material is sourced and made in the USA.
Our vinyl is virgin resin, not recycled blends that yellow and crack. Our wood is Select #1 A-Grade, graded and stamped before it reaches our stock room. You can visit our office at 4901 Craftsman Dr in Raleigh and walk through our stock room without an appointment to see and touch every material before it goes in your yard.
Financing is available for all credit scores.
A fence is a significant purchase. We offer financing options so homeowners can move forward without waiting.
Permit preparation is included at no extra cost.
Raleigh’s permit process can be straightforward for a standard lot or complex near creeks, sewer lines, and tree protection zones. Either way, we prepare the documentation. For HOA-governed properties, we prepare the architectural review packet and you submit it to your HOA board.

Questions
Frequently asked questions about fence installation in Raleigh
Do I need a permit to build a fence in Raleigh, NC?
Yes, Raleigh requires a fence permit for most residential and commercial installations, and the city charges $264 for the permit fee. We prepare all permit documentation for free as part of your quote. Standard permits typically take one to two weeks. Properties near creeks, sewer lines, drainage easements, or tree protection zones may take a month or longer due to additional review. Price may go up as well if the city is required to send out an inspector for multiple visits.
How long does a typical fence installation take?
Most residential fence installations take one to three days once the permit is approved and materials are on hand. Larger properties or commercial projects may take longer. We schedule a start date during your consultation and keep you updated if the permit review affects the timeline.
How do I choose between vinyl, wood, and aluminum fencing?
The right material depends on what you need the fence to do. Vinyl is the lowest-maintenance option and our most popular choice for privacy. It never needs painting or staining and carries a lifetime warranty. Wood gives you a natural look and is the better fit if you want to stain or paint a custom color, though it requires periodic maintenance. Aluminum works best for pool enclosures, front yards, and any spot where you want a boundary without blocking the view. You’re welcome to visit our stock room at 4901 Craftsman Dr in Raleigh to compare materials in person, no appointment needed.
