Project Overview

This Raleigh property was a freshly graded, new-construction lot — bare red clay, no landscaping yet, and a handful of mature trees the homeowner wanted to keep rather than clear. Index Fence installed a vinyl privacy fence in Golden Oak, a woodgrain finish that gives the look of a stained wood fence without the upkeep, running the full perimeter of the backyard.

Rather than clearing the lot down to a blank slate, the fence line was laid out to work around the existing trees at the rear corner, so the yard keeps some established shade and greenery while the rest of the landscaping catches up.

Why This Approach Worked

A brand-new lot with no landscaping yet needed a fence that could stand on its own and still look finished — Golden Oak vinyl does that. The molded woodgrain texture reads as a stained wood fence from a few feet away, without the sealing, staining, or warping that real wood would face sitting in freshly turned clay before the yard has a chance to settle and drain properly.

Working the fence line around the existing trees, rather than clearing them, was the other key call. It meant more careful layout and panel cuts at the corner, but it saved shade and mature growth that would have taken years to replace — a head start most new-construction yards don’t get.

The Finished Result

Even with the rest of the yard still bare and waiting on landscaping, the backyard already reads as private and finished. The Golden Oak woodgrain gives the fence the warmth of real wood, the tongue-and-groove panels close off every sightline, and the trees saved at the corner mean this lot didn’t have to start completely from scratch.
