How Index Fence Built a Fence Company Raleigh Homeowners Actually Trust
In 2020, Index Fence started in Raleigh, NC, with a simple premise: let homeowners see exactly what goes into their fence before a single post goes in the ground. From the beginning, the company focused on clear communication, quality materials, and a no-corners-cut approach to every project.
Six years and roughly 2,000 fence installations later, that premise has not changed. Index Fence still operates out of a physical office at 4901 Craftsman Dr in Raleigh. The stock room is open to anyone who wants to walk in. Pick up a vinyl rail. Feel the weight of a pressure-treated post. Compare it to what other companies use. No appointment needed.
Build standards
Every Fence Gets 3 Rails, 2-Foot Post Depth, and 80 Lbs of Concrete Minimum
Most fencing companies talk about quality. We would rather show you what quality looks like in practice.
We only use Select #1 A-Grade premium pressure-treated wood.
Most competitors in Raleigh default to Select #2. The difference is visible: fewer knots, straighter boards, and a fence that stays level years after installation.
Every 6-foot fence gets 3 horizontal rails.
The industry standard is often 2 rails. That third rail prevents sagging, warping, and the wobble you feel when you push against a cheaply built fence. For 8 to 10-foot fences, we use 4 rails.
Every post goes 2 feet deep with 80 to 100 pounds of concrete.
Raleigh’s clay-heavy soil shifts seasonally. Shallow posts in that soil will lean within two years. Our post depth and concrete volume are built for the ground conditions here, not a generic spec sheet.
All vinyl is virgin vinyl, manufactured in the USA.
No recycled blends, no overseas materials. Virgin vinyl holds its color and resists cracking in North Carolina’s heat and UV exposure far longer than recycled alternatives.
We were also the first company in the Raleigh market to start using Alta Pickets, premium wood pickets backed by a 10-year manufacturer warranty.

Our office staff answers every call locally. There is no answering service. If you call during business hours (Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM), a real person at our Raleigh office picks up. We commit to calling back within one hour during business hours.
We also speak Spanish and Persian, so language is never a barrier to getting your fence project started.

Our office at 4901 Craftsman Dr has a stock room with every material we install. You can touch, compare, and inspect the wood, vinyl, and aluminum before signing anything. Most contractors ask you to trust a sample swatch or a photo. We hand you the actual material.

Raleigh charges $264 for a fence permit. We handle the city permit paperwork for free as part of your quote. For HOA permits, we prepare all the documentation and you submit it to your association.
